Adria Wauson Teacher of the Year Region 19 - 8/15/2008
Here are just a few pictures from the most amazing night of my life! I am so grateful to the education and experiences I received at Our Lady of the Lake University. This wonderful institution of higher learning provided me with the foundation I needed to become the teacher I am today. I will always be so grateful for that! I will now go on to compete for the Region 19 Teacher of the Year honors. I will be sure to let you know how it goes.:)Adria (Myers) WausonOLLU Class of 97

China Trip pictures from alumni - 4/14/2008
Our group of 47 OLLU alumni, family and friends returned from a 9 day trip to China on April 22. It was a wonderful experience. We toured historical and cultural venues in Beijing, saw the city of Xian from the top of its surrounding wall, and viewed the centuries old Terra Cotta soldiers. From the Emperor's Summer Palace, to the Forbidden City that is connected to Tiananmen Square, to the Great Wall, to a wonderful acrobatic show, we enjoyed every part of our trip. Some of us shopped til we dropped; but we came back with great bargains in silk, jade and pearls! We ate a formal dumpling dinner, a Peking duck dinner (the duck was carved at our table), and a home cooked lunch in homes in a traditional Hutong neighborhood. We drove by the Olympic site and saw the Bird's Nest (the new Chinese National Stadium) and the aquatic center that is made of plastic bubbles. Every day was packed with plenty to see and do.
Here is a link (http://picasaweb.google.com/jalinvil/ChinaTripApril2008) to pictures from Ann Linville, sister of Sister Mildred Truchard (MEd '78) that she shared.
Here are three pictures from alumnus, Don Nichols (BBA 1989) 1) our group walking down a street in Beijing, 2)Don flying his kite in Tiananmen Square, 3)Don flying his kite at the Great Wall.

Trip to Piedres Negres in 2007.
We left the church gracepoint church on the morning of Sep 14 just before 6:30 and between 25 and 30 were on this trip.we took one van and the church bus. We got into Batesville for a pit stop around 8:30 then arrived at the Mcdonnalds of Eagle Pass shortly before 9:30 for breakfast and to buy last minute things from the near by HEB. Right across the street is also a Berger King for those who do not like Mcdonnalds. After we finished our breakfast, we left for Mexico. We crossed the boarder without being stopped then got to Clinica Baptista just before 11. We took a short tour of the orphanage housing about 25 disabled residents and Pastor Paulino spoke briefly about the progress and introduced us to staff. Some of the pictures are of the orphanage and some of the pictures are of the residents. Just outside the new dorm is the actual clinic where Speech Theripest, accupational Theripest doctorsand nurses visit the residents along with neighborhood residents during the week. This program also has afood pantry and clothing closet for those in need. My dream is that some day thelake will send students down to do community service to this program and some can do Speech Therepy to those in need. In Mexico very few peoplecan get adiquit speech therapyor medical services as those who cannot pay for the most part do not get it. We left for a church shortly before noon and around 12:30 in the afternoon, we set up in Pastor Paulino’s Baptist church just a short drive from the orphanage. He did not go with us, but some of his church members helped including a guy called the professor. Shortly after 1 in the afternoon, we set up in the church our Vacation Bible School where we had indoor games for younger children and outdoor socar games for older children. While that was going on we brought a doctor, a nurse and several support staff to do basic medical examinations for neighborhood residents in need. The two OLLU Lions that came from the student Lions Club helped in the clinic while I played Christian CD’s for the children. Our VBS and Medical ended around 3:30. We took pictures and closing prayer then we ate supperat a down town restaurant in Piedres Negres that had buffettestyle food. After supper, we drove across the boarder and we did not get stopped, they just asked us to slow down while passing the American Boarder crossing. We got back to the church just before 9 at night and I got home by 9:30. Special thanks for the two OLLU Campus Lions for helping me. Our next trip to Piedres Negres is scheduled for Nov 10. We assemble at Grace Point Church location 9750 Heubener at 6 Saturday morning and all are envited. The Bus will take church members first otherwise anyone is welcomed to bring their own cars. We will be visitinganother orphanage for vbs only and children’s workers are needed especially those who speak Spanish. If interested Please write or call me at 521-5085. Please make these pictures along with the story available to all Olums. Larry Roser from the class of 75.
