Getting Involved
Alumni Relations
Recruitment Ambassadors
Are you interested in being a recruitment ambassador? A recruitment ambassador works closely with enrollment management in their recruitment efforts. Recruitment ambassadors are alumni that would like to get involved in the enrollment/recruitment process by making phone calls, following up with letters, or even making visits to the local high school in their area during "Career Days." Alumni meet with prospective student and their parents to share their OLLU experiences.
Recruitment college fairs are held in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, McAllen, Laredo, and El Paso.

Volunteer Mentoring Program
Those alumni interested in making a difference in the lives of our current students may want to take advantage of our Alumni Volunteer Mentoring Program.
Program Goals
To provide a positive and supportive mentoring relationship in which students may learn, grow and excel.
To build bridges of understanding and cooperation between current and former OLLU students.
To improve persistence rates of OLLU students.
To establish professional level links between students and people in business, industry, commerce,
education and social service organizations.
It is divided into 3 mentoring opportunities:
Become a Mentor
When you become a mentor, you will be matched with a student. Mentors should:
Commit to one semester.
Communicate with student(s) via e-mail, phone, or in person.
Provide opportunity to shadow (if permissible by employer).
Complete an evaluation of mentor experience each semester.
Provide a Shadowing Opportunity
If your schedule does not allow for the time required of a mentor, you might want to consider a one-day commitment. Shadowing allows a student to spend the day at your place of employment to experience a typical day in your career field.
Become a Speaker
Another way in which you may become involved is by being available to speak with students regarding your career field and the paths you took that led you there. Students learn a great deal by listening to others speak of their experiences. You will be given the opportunity to interact with students and provide information that may be just what the students needed to make critical career decisions.
If you are interested in volunteering in any of the three mentoring opportunities, contact us at alumni@lake.ollusa.edu.
