Where We Stand
The work we have ahead of us is difficult. Yet, the Blessed Mother, high above the building, remains intact. Under her feet, with a century's strength abiding the hearty stone walls, we must restore the collapsed spires and rebuild the interior. We must completely reconstruct the fourth floor. The remaining floors, with their intricate woodwork and tiling, require extensive restoration and renovation to counter smoke, water, and heat damage. No records have been lost. Presently, structural engineers are examining the building to see where and how we go from here.
Adjacent buildings, thankfully, faired better. The strong wind from the south and west billowed smoke into Moye Hall and water from the fire department ladder hoses flooded the School of Business and Leadership and caused damage to other offices in Moye Hall; thus we've temporarily closed that building until it can be ventilated, the water pumped out and then cleaned and repaired. The furniture from the Renaissance Parlors (recently renovated) is in safekeeping on the third floor of Our Lady of the Lake Convent . Some of our classes are meeting in the convent until we end the semester next week, and some of our personnel will have offices in the convent until they can return to their space in Main.
What You Can Do
We ask for prayers and support for our students. Some 100 resident students were displaced, and the thirty-five students who lived in Theresian Hall (formerly a Sisters' residence on third floor Main ) have been waiting for approved access to retrieve essential personal items. We are so proud of the San Antonio alums who have stepped forward to help the Theresian Hall residents obtain needed items in the mean time.
We also ask for your patience as we restore phone lines, email, and internet service to the University. The Alumni Homepage is up and running, so please visit us there for updated information and to register to join our online alumni community.
Currently, donations are being accepted at Our Secure Online Giving Page. Checks will also be accepted: please make payable to OLLU and mail to OLLU Development Office, 411 SW 24th Street , San Antonio , Texas 78207 . In addition, Frost Bank has set up the "Our Lady of the Lake Rebuilding Fund" to also accept donations. If you wish to make a gift in this way, visit any Frost Bank location and donate to account number 01-0494593.
Our OLLU community-alumni, students, faculty, administration, Sisters of Divine Providence, Board of Trustees, friends and benefactors are rallying in the spirit and tradition of our heritage. We go forward in faith, relying on our Provident God who protects and cares for us in so many, many ways. Please keep all of us in your prayers.
You will hear from us again soon with updated information as we move forward with our restoration and ways you can continue to help your beloved Our Lady of the Lake.
